My reflection on my sustainability practices.

For my class blog, I was asked to pick two sustainability practices that would benefits me and the environment in a positive way. I chose eating healthy including fruits and vegetables and exercising. I feel these two activities would provide a cleaner and a healthier tomorrow. But we have to start somewhere. My progress began in February. It was a slow start though. Each week , I ate a little more healthy but some days I fell off the wagon. Now it’s April, I am doing slightly better. For exercising, I had to make time and adjustments in my daily …

Coffee Time

Nespresso Coffee model My favorite coffee / espresso capsules. I personally use this machine at least three times a week.  They are an interesting company. The capsules are made from aluminum. Once the capsules are empty, you drop them in a pre-paid envelope for recycling. The aluminum is processed, and the grounds are turned into compost. They aim to support the zero-waste initiative. They hope to be completed by 2030. https://www.environmentalleader.com/2019/03/nespresso-invests-in-nyc-to-encourage-curbside-coffee-pod-recycling/

My personal experiences during spring break.

During my spring break travels I took some photos of sustainability happening. We traveled to Vermont. I must say they believe in a healthy environment. Restaurants and even colleges are already in full force. The air quality is very good compared to NYC. Recycling and reusing water bottles is positive for our planet. Small changes people do would gradually be something phenomenal. After taking this class, I see more clearly and understand about sustainability. The education helped me do positive changes, simple but small for the environment.

Almost 40% of food is wasted in the U.S. Food Packaging like containers, plates and utensils are made of plastic. Most of the time are wind up sitting in landfills. Arizona is hosting a Sustainable Packaging expo. It will educate people about recyclable and compostable materials that they can use instead. Sustainable Design

For my blog assignment I chose to discuss a Ted.com video. The video is from Wolfgang Kissling called, “How to air condition outdoor space”. He discusses new ideas on how to cool down stadiums. Today, more and more stadiums are outdoors. For instance, Orlando, Florida has a big outdoor stadium. The humidity and the heat are very high. Also, other stadiums around the world like Greece and Mexico City. Their heat and humidity index above average.  They suggested putting a PVC and solar system around the top of the stadium. They would use renewable energy from the sun. This would …

Climate change with Burger King.

Hi there,             I just found an interesting article about Burger King. Burger king is trying to get a step ahead from the competition. They are going to be making meatless burgers. That’s right you heard it here, its going to be a vegetarian version of its signature sandwich, relying on plant-based patties developed by San Francisco Bay area start-up Impossible Foods. If burger King starts to go vegan, the fast food industry could push to go meatless. If that happens, less production in meat and less production of methane production in which that affects the climate change. I …

My Carbon Footprint Calculations.

Good Evening, I wanted to talk about my carbon Footprint for this blog assignment. I used the website,” http://www.yousustain.com/footprint/carbon” to get my information. I loaded my data using the questions and it concluded that I used 11.11 metric tons per year. According to the Co2e calculator, that equals to about 1.67 metric of Co2e. The average Footprint data for people in the United States is 16.49 metric tons. I also noticed that worldwide target to combat climate change is 2 metric tons. After answering those questions, I felt like now I can cut back on some of my secondary needs. …

climate change and defending the rainforest

http://www.ideacity.ca/video/topher-white-defending-rainforest/             For my next blog post about I am going to be discussing about climate change involving the rainforest. The company that is supporting the rainforest is called, “rainforest Connection”. Topher White built the company. He created a solar power of listening devices to monitor and protect different parts of the rainforest. The technology he is using are recycled cell phones. He takes old cell phones, antennas and microphones in order to make solar panel stations. The sun would charge the panels. It will then broadcast what is happening in the rainforest. They are trying to stop people from …

Re-thinking consumption in our age of consumerism

Today I choose to discuss Tupperware particularly disposable plastic food containers. Most people buy boxes of plastic Tupperware containers to store their food. They come in handy for traveling to/from work/school. They are also useful for storing leftovers. They are light and disposable.  They are very convenient for many things. One problem that most people do not realize is that when you heat the containers, it releases chemicals in which are toxic and is therefore indigested. It is very important to be sure to that the containers purchased are microwave safe and not microwaved for longer than needed. There are …
